Stokes' Aster (Stokesia laevis), at Purdue Horticulture Gardens, June 28, 2010. Stokesia is one of the many plants in the Asteraceae plant family and is native to the southeastern US. Stokesia is placed in the Vernonieae subdivision of the Asteraceae, which includes our native Vernonia, or ironweed.
